Route Map

This route traverses the Swiss Alps from west to east using a mix of high gravel passes, mountain roads, military tracks, and rough alpine connectors. Riders spend multiple consecutive days above 1800 meters and encounter sustained climbing throughout the route.

The terrain is extremely varied. Smooth gravel valleys transition into steep rock-covered climbs and technical descents with drainage bars, loose switchbacks, and occasional hike-a-bike sections. The route is physically demanding even for experienced bikepackers due to repeated altitude exposure and steep gradients.

Weather windows are critical. Snow can block passes until late June while thunderstorms and dense fog create visibility problems during summer afternoons. Overnight temperatures frequently drop below freezing at elevation.

Resupply planning is manageable but expensive. Several mountain valleys have limited services outside tourist season. Water is generally accessible through fountains and streams but riders still carry larger capacity across exposed ridges.

Navigation requires concentration because the route frequently combines local bike routes, military roads, and remote alpine tracks. Completion usually takes eight to fourteen days depending on weather and physical condition.
